Since 2020, Rovinj Diving Island has been committed to the preservation and restoration of the catshark population on the Red Island in Croatia. Initially launched as a university project involving four universities from across Europe, the initiative included mapping and surveying the entire home bay to identify the perfect site for egg rearing

In 2023, ocean conservation filmmaker Sabine M. Probst was invited to create a short image film for the Catshark Ranger Station, documenting their first attempt at catshark conservation. The film premiered in 2024 at the International Ocean Film Tour in Graz, Austria.
